A diverse, yet unified organization of homeschooling families who work collectively and cooperatively to provide encouragement, support, resources, classes, fieldtrips and both social and educational activities and opportunities to its members and their children. We are working to build a fellowship which recognizes each member's valuable contribution. Our operation is based upon mutual respect, member initiative, and a democratically based decision making process. We acknowledge a responsibility to one another, as well as to our local community. We will allow our group to evolve as our enrollment, and our children, grow.

The following is not officially an AHL event, but it is a great opportunity for older children, set up by an AHL member.  If interested, please contact Kelly.

Bradbury Science Museum Science Explorations

I have set up three FREE educational field trips to the Bradbury Science Museum for this fall. Dates and topics are as follows:

Sept 10th - CRYOGENICCS – This is a demonstration using liquid nitrogen to explore the science of extreme cold.

Oct 8thVOLTS AND JOLTS – Charge up your students with hands-on static electricity activities using simple materials.

Dec 10th – IT’S NOT SCIENCE - IT’S MAGIC! Students explore science concepts as they observe and attempt to explain baffling phenomena in an entertaining approach.

Each program lasts approximately two hours and includes:

1 hour ‘classroom’ presentation (demonstration/hands-on)
20 minute movie in their theatre on the topic
40 minutes of free exploration time in the rest of the museum

I attended one of their programs recently and was thoroughly impressed with the delivery and quality of the education provided! These are free programs, they never charge for any of their programs but we need a minimum of 12 kids and I will accept up to 20.

Target group is 3rd to 8th grade learning level…I know this doesn’t necessarily equate to an age with homeschoolers.  Please talk to me if you have questions about this.

I chose Wednesdays because, for those who would like to, the indoor pool in Los Alamos has a fun kids program on Wednesdays from 1-3 where they set up an inflatable obstacle course for the kids to play on and have inner tubes and life vests available as well.  They also have a warm therapy pool, a perfect way to end the day!

Carpooling to share gas money is highly recommended!  Personally, I will have 5 available seats in my van.  I will be departing from Rio Rancho.  The drive is about and hour and a half.

Please email me at larks@cableone.net or call me at 771-3366 to confirm number and ages (grade) of kids.
