Message Board Notifications:
Many of us, including the AHL Administrators, are not getting notifications of new posts to the message board. We’re sorry to say it isn’t going to get better. The cause of this is…Due to massive amounts of spam, ISPs (Internet Service Providers) are becoming more and more stringent about what they filter out as SPAM. Many, such as Comast, filter out any mail from any servers that are guilty of sending out mass emails. Since mass communication is exactly what message boards exist for, the shared server our message board is on frequently sends out mass emails, known as activation emails and notification emails. There is nothing that can be done about the ISPs that continually block mail from our server.
But, here’s what you can do:
- You can choose to open a gmail account to have your notifications sent to. So far, gmail has been consistently letting notifications through. I'm finding that even gmail is now blocking many of the messages sent from our server.
- You can visit the board on a regular basis to check for new posts. To check for new posts, you can:
A: Click on the “recent” tab. When you do so you will be shown which topics have had recent activity? If there is a topic of interest to you there, you can click on it to see what’s new.
B: When you open a forum, you will see little green arrows in the “topic” column, next to any topics that have had new posts since you last viewed the topic. If you click on the green arrow, as opposed to clicking on the topic title, the message board will bring you directly to the posts you have not yet viewed.
C: Also, you may reach on the last post in a topic by clicking on the black arrow in the "last post" column, but there may be more posts above that which you have not yet read.
