Los Ranchos Winter Markets - IN THE BARN!
6718 Rio Grande Blvd NW
Sat. January 12, 10 am - noon
In December around 9 am before the market started, the wind was whipping around about 40 mph, it was very cold, and it had started to rain. The mayor came and unlocked the barn and we had an impromptu market in the barn. It was great! The January, February, and March, and depending on weather, the April Winter Markets will be held in the Los Ranchos Community Barn, which is just south of the tennis courts/parking lot where we hold the outdoor market. Look for the green flags!
Have a cup of coffee or some posole, sit at one of the picnic tables or stroll around, and enjoy Rob Roman's wonderful guitar music. Pick up great greens and winter veggies. Charlie will have his tasty tomatoes. Randy will be introducing his new granola. Ferdinanda will have the delicious Fuji Lane cider to take home; and there will other great gourmet goodies to tempt you. Lloyd, who some of you will recognize from the Downtown market, will be here with his massage chair! Kelly Jo will have her great pottery.
Market tables may have:
Chard, kale, variety of lettuces, micro greens
carrots, tomatoes, mushrooms
fresh pasta, cider
granola, eggs, Swiss Alps bread, organic raspberry jam, pinto beans
Winter bedding plants, house plants, fresh herbs, dried herbs, culinary herbal mixes
dried flower arrangements
burritos, pastries & hot pasole, and more!
Arts and Crafters will feature creative and unique gifts including:
Ornaments, pottery, Japanese porcelain flower holders,
bird houses, metal sculpture, knitted and crocheted sweaters and afghans, painted silk scarves
handmade soaps, wood crafts, oil and watercolor paintings, jewelry, cards, dolls, toys and more!

Greetings,
We are kicking off our spring 2008 classes in a week, the schedule is shown below, please register ASAP. I also included information on the 2008 summer camps, a learning tip, and a sale on Level 2 resources.
We had a wonderful party at the end of last semester where the all the children sang several songs together, and then the beginning kids put on a play, and the intermediate kids showed a movie they made.
At the bottom of this introduction there is a button that makes it easy to forward this newsletter. Please take 30 seconds and forward it on to other families or teachers. - Thanks!

Spanish Champs Spring Schedule
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Progressive Language is pleased to announce our programs for Spring 2008, classes are for families with children 5-11 years old.
Spanish Champs Beginners: This first year is a two-semester family program that teaches beginning Spanish through music, books, games, contests, crafts, stories, activities, and plays. We cover: greetings, numbers, colors, food, clothes, feelings, and basic verbs. This program is appropriate for children with minimal or no Spanish skills.
Spanish Champs Intermediate: Is a two-semester family program that uses the same teaching methodology as year one, but builds on the Spanish from year one. In year two we cover: family, adjectives and descriptions, animals, more numbers and colors, action verbs, alphabet, commands, and home. We also have a big focus on reading, writing, and sentence construction skills. This program is appropriate for children with basic comprehension skills and familiarity with the subjects from year one.
Families can join the continuing classes, even if they haven't been in a Spanish Champs class, as long as they are familiar with most of the topics we have covered.
Event: El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro: Lecture Series
Date: January 12, January 24 and January 25, 2008
Special Instructions: Call 897-8831 to register for one or more lectures. Space is limited.
Location: Open Space Visitor Center, 6500 Coors Blvd., between Montaño & Paseo del Norte at the end of Bosque Meadows Rd.
Contact: Jodi Hedderig; 897-8831; jhedderig@cabq.gov; http://www.cabq.gov/openspace
The City of Albuquerque, the Mexican Consulate-Albuquerque and the Camino Real International Heritage Center, are pleased to host the photography exhibition: “El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro” (the royal road to the interior lands) by the award-winning Mexican artist, Eniac Martínez. Martínez retraces the Camino Real and documents the life, culture and traditions existing along the road today in 50 black and white panoramic photographs.
The Camino Real is one of the oldest continuously used roads in North America, stretching 1500-miles from Mexico City through Santa Fe. Firmly established by Spanish explorers in 1598, it has guided colonists, merchants, missionaries and many others into the “New World” and continues to be an active route today.
Throughout the show the Open Space Visitor Center will be hosting a series of lectures that enhance the exhibit and reveal the vibrant culture, traditions and history that continue along the route today.
Saturday, January 12 at 1:00PM: "CAMINO REAL TRAVELERS & PILGRIMS"
By Dr. Enrique Lamadrid
Professor Lamadrid has conducted many research expeditions with his students on the cultural traditions and fiestas of the Camino Real. The road is a corridor of commerce, cultural exchange, religious pilgrimage,
and heritage tourism.
Thursday, January 24 at 10:00 AM: "LOCATING & TRAVELING THE CAMINO REAL"
By Dr. Enrique Lamadrid
This presentation will aid and advise students and wanderers of all ages on how to locate the route of the Camino Real in their area and what can be learned by traveling it.
Friday, January 25 at 7:00 PM: "EL CAMINO REAL: THEN AND NOW" –
By Dr. Jerry Gurulé
This former National Park Service cultural historian and linguist helped locate not only the historical documents of the Camino, but the historic routes themselves, on the ground. Of all historic roads in North America,
the Camino is the same now as it was four centuries ago.
El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro opens January 11 at the Open Space Visitor Center and will be on exhibit until February 6, 2008. Admission is free.
