FOUR COUNTRIES...FOUR RHYTHMS...ONE HEART
Drum! Brings the Culture of Nova Scotia to Popejoy Hall
Drum! brings electrifying music, rhythms and dance to Popejoy Hall on for two performances on Sunday, January 20, 2008. Drum! comes to New Mexico as part of Popejoy Presents sponsored by Sandia Resort and Casino and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico.

Part Riverdance, part Stomp, Drum! manages to establish its own identity as a performance piece born of rich cultural traditions, and driven by youthful energy.

Drum! features 20 musicians, dancers, drummers, and singers from four of the principle cultures of Nova Scotia - Black, Acadian, Aboriginal, and Celtic - brought together in a heart-pumping fusion of music, dance, poetry, video, rhythm, and song.
The aboriginal drummers - George Paul and Trevor Gould - set the beat from the center of the semi-circle stage, hammering out a rhythm on a large ceremonial drum. An Acadian dancer in a scarlet skirt, joins them with a lively dance accompanied by the clickety-clack of spoons followed by the accordion and fiddle.
Since the show first came to the stage in 1999, the production has been received with standing ovations and rave reviews. When Drum! was originally conceived and created by Brookes Diamond, it was the main stage show at Tall Ships 2000 as a 45-minute tourism piece. Drum! made its debut as a full-length production in 2004 running for ten nights in its own specially designed theatre at the Halifax waterfront.
Tickets for Drum! are $29, $19 and $15. Drum! will be at Popejoy Hall on January 20 at 2pm and 6pm. Patrons may purchase tickets by calling (877) 664-8661. Tickets are sold at UNM Ticket Offices at the UNM Bookstore, Central and Cornell and the UNM Arena (The Pit), University and Avenida César Chávez. Bookstore location hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 am to 6pm and Saturday from noon until 4pm. The Pit location hours are 8:30 to 5pm Monday through Friday. Tickets may also be purchased through UNM by calling 925-5858 or by visiting the UNM ticketing website at http://www.unmtickets.com.
