Temples and Tombs:
Treasures of Egyptian Art from
The British Museum

Last Day of Exhibition is Sunday February 10!

The Albuquerque Museum of Art and History
Through February 10, 2008

Temples and Tombs: Treasures of Egyptian Art from The British Museum opens at The Albuquerque Museum of Art and History on Sunday, November 18, 2007.

Organized by The British Museum and the American Federation of Arts, this exciting exhibition of  85 magnificent objects spans the full range of pharaonic history — from shortly before the Third Dynasty, about 2686 B.C., to the Roman occupation of the fourth century A.D. — and provides museum visitors in Albuquerque
a rare opportunity to view renowned Egyptian masterworks and lesser-known treasures before their final return to The British Museum.

The exhibition features sculptures, reliefs, papyri, ostraca, jewelry, cosmetic objects, and funerary items in a variety of media – including stone, wood, terra cotta, gold, glass, and papyrus — that reflect the richness and scope of The British Museum’s exceptional collection.

Temples and Tombs explores four distinct themes: objects from the lives of artists and nobles; the king and the temple; statues of Egyptians from temples and tombs; and the tomb, death, and the afterlife. The four thematic divisions of the exhibition allow for a specific examination of these masterworks in the context of the Egyptian temporal and cosmic world view.

The Albuquerque Museum of Art & History
2000 Mountain Road NW

Museum admission:  $4 Adults ($1 discount to NM residents w/ ID),
$2 Seniors (65+), $1 Children 4-12. Children 3 and under are free.
General admission is free the first Wednesday of the month and every Sunday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Hours: Tuesday - Sunday, 9-5; Fridays until 8pm during Temples and Tombs exhibition.

The Albuquerque Museum is a division of the Cultural services Department of the City of Albuquerque.
Martin J. Chávez, Mayor.

DANCE!
The Hubbard Street Dance Chicago Brings the Edge of Dance to Popejoy Hall
Albuquerque, NM - January 31, 2008 Hubbard Street Dance Chicago brings the strength and versatility of its dancers to Popejoy Hall at 7:30pm on Tuesday, February 19, 2008. Hubbard Street Dance Chicago comes to New Mexico as part of Popejoy Presents sponsored by Sandia Resort and Casino and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico.

Created in 1977, the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago has earned a reputation as one of the most innovative and exciting modern dance repertoire companies in the country. They are known throughout the world for their dynamic and artistic approach to performance. When founder Lou Conte retired in 2000, current artistic director Jim Vincent stepped up to the plate. Drawing from his experience as a dancer, teacher, ballet master and choreographer throughout Europe, Vincent has added many international influences to the company.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago inspires audiences with its powerful movement. The company's repertoire includes eclectic pieces based on a variety of dance traditions and genres. Although they are founded on strong ballet technique, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago is everything but classical. The dancers' capabilities range from seductive to silly, explosive to eerie. The themes of their pieces span a spectrum of ideas, including love, the underworld, and human relationships.
Celebrating their 30th anniversary this year, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago is willing to be different. They are known for the strength and versatility of their dancers. Their reputation is built on their ability to perform a broad continuum of works with extreme expression, skill and passion. Fred Astaire said that they were "Some of the best dancing I've seen in years!" Don't miss Hubbard Street Dance Chicago as they demonstrate their prowess in dances by acclaimed choreographers Toru Shimazaki, Doug Varone, and artistic director Jim Vincent.
Tickets for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago are $39, $29 and $25. Patrons may purchase tickets at unmtickets.com, by calling (877) 664-8661 or (505) 925-5858. Tickets are sold at UNM Ticket Offices at the UNM Bookstore, Central and Cornell and the UNM Arena (The Pit), University and Avenida César Chávez. Bookstore location hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 am to 6pm and Saturday from noon until 4pm. The Pit location hours are 8:30 to 5pm Monday through Friday. Tickets may also be purchased at select Albertson's locations.
