CELEBRATION AND SACRIFICE
JOSÉ LIMÓN DANCE COMPANY DANCES INTO POPEJOY HALL
Albuquerque, NM - March 17, 2008 The José Limón Dance Company performs three pieces choreographed by José Limón at 7:30pm, Wednesday, April 23. The José Limón Dance Company comes to Popejoy Hall as part of the Popejoy Presents sponsored by Sandia Casino and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico.

Founding his company in 1946, José Limón appointed his mentor Doris Humphrey as artistic director of his new company. Many of the dancers from this company have become renowned teachers, greatly influencing the course of modern dance in this generation.

For the program, the company will present Psalm and A Choreographic Offering, two of Limón's greatest works. These pieces demonstrate the virtuosity and grace of the dancers. A Choreographic Offering has a sacrificial storyline subtly woven throughout the work. The original dance consisted of 58 minutes of dancing broken into groups of various sizes. The José Limón Company presents sections of this work in a suite. Psalm is a work simply about the joy of dancing. Originally presented in 1967, this piece was revived for and performed at the 2002 Winter Olympics. The third work they will bring, Traitor, has just been reconstructed for this anniversary year. Retelling the Jesus/Judas tale, it was one of the pieces in which Limón himself danced; and like many of the other pieces in which Limón cast himself, this piece extremely dramatic and expressive.
The company has revived these master works in honor of their 60th anniversary and the 100th anniversary of José Limón's birth. Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate with one of the oldest and most renowned modern dance companies in the country.
Tickets for The José Limón Dance Company are $45, $35 and $31. Patrons may purchase tickets by calling (877) 664-8661. Tickets are sold at UNM Ticket Offices at the UNM Bookstore, Central and Cornell and the UNM Arena (The Pit), University and Avenida César Chávez. Bookstore location hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10am to 6pm and Saturday from noon until 4pm. The Pit location hours are 8:30am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Tickets may also be purchased through UNM by calling 925-5858 or by visiting the UNM ticketing website at http://www.unmtickets.com and at select Albertson's locations.

A PIRATE'S LIFE FOR ME!
HMS Pinafore sails its way into Popejoy Hall
Albuquerque, NM - March 17, 2008 The Carl Rosa Company brings Gilbert and Sullivan's comedic classic, HMS Pinafore, to Popejoy Hall at 7:30pm, on Wednesday, April 16. This is a third party promotion and not necessarily AHL endorsed.

Dear Fundamentals family and community,

For the fourth year, Fundamentals Gymnastics staff and members will be participating in the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Albuquerque, NM on Sunday April 27th.

Each year, we learn of more people we know who have been diagnosed with, survived, or lost their lives to breast cancer.  This event is a great way for us to support their struggle and honor their memory by helping to raise not only money, but awareness about this disease.  Each year, teams like ours raise thousands of dollars for breast cancer research and to provide free programs to help make the lives of cancer patients easier.  This year we aim to do the same, but even bigger and better.  We have set an agressive goal of $5,000 to be raised by the members and staff at Fundamentals!

Please take a minute to view our team website which has more information about how you can get involved by donating money, walking with our team, and helping to raise money for the walk!

http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/MakingStridesAgainstBreastCancer/MSABCFY08GreatWest/1137153142?pg=team&fr_id=3792&team_id=252278

Here are some FACTS about Fundraising for Fundamentals:

   * If every gymnast raised just $25, we would easily reach our $5,000 team goal!

   * The first 30 gymnasts to commit to raising $50 by April 1st will receive a FREE Fundamentals Making Strides Againts Breast Cancer t-shirt!

   * We will keep track of all money raised on the Pink Panther in the lobby.  Let the front office know when you've helped by raising money and watch us reach our team goal!

   * Create your own personal fundraising webpage by clicking on our team web link above.  Then send emails to friends and family asking them to help your efforts!

   * Do you know someone who has or had breast cancer?  Help us honor them by providing their name to the front office and their pink ribbon will be displayed proudly!

   * All funds are due to the Fundamentals office on or before April 23rd!

For more information, please send an email to info@fundamentalsgym.com or call 505-889-4656.  Thank you in advance for your support! We hope you will join us on Sunday, April 27th for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk!

Hope starts here.... with us!

Each Saturday of the month of April you can help clean and protect the Major Public Open Space of the Sandia foothills!  Citizens of Albuquerque know that they live next to a natural treasure, the Sandia Mountains.  The Sandia Foothills Open Space is one of our most visible and visited Major Public Open Spaces.  Places like the Embudito and Piedra Lisa Open Spaces are the gateways to the Sandia Mountain Wilderness and offer wonderful opportunities to enjoy nature.

“The City of Albuquerque Open Space Division offers 28,000 acres of spectacular views, diverse landscapes and hundreds of miles of easy to challenging trails,” says Mayor Martin Chavez.  In the Sandia foothills alone, the public can enjoy 2,650 acres and a myriad of multi-use trails open to hikers, bikers and horseback riders.  So help the environment and your community, participate in Spring Clean Up in the Foothills this April.

Spring Clean Up in the Foothills begins April 5 and continues every Saturday through April 26.  Volunteers will do general clean up activities that protect the wildlife and landscape of the foothills.  Volunteers should bring work gloves, water and sun protection and wear sturdy shoes (no sandals).  Work days begin at 9am and end at 1pm.  Registration begins at 8:00am.  Groups welcome, but please carpool.  Work days will be at these locations east of Tramway Blvd:

April 5 at Copper

April 12 at Indian School

April 19 at Menaul

April 26 at Piedra Lisa (south of Candelaria and east of Camino de la Sierra)

Please call 452-5200 or see http://www.cabq.gov/openspace for more information.  The Parks and Recreation Department was created to better serve the recreation needs of the residents of Albuquerque and the surrounding metropolitan areas while protecting and conserving our precious natural landscapes for future generations.  This department continues to be organized in the following divisions: Park Management, Recreation Services, Planning and Design, Open Space, Golf, and Strategic Support.
