Saturday, May 17 ~ 10am to 4pm ~ Navajo Rug Sale
Steve Pickle, trader and manager from Hubbell Trading Post National
Historic Site at Ganado, Arizona will conduct the 4th Annual Navajo Rug
Sale at Petroglyph National Monument's visitor center. This is the only
time this year that Hubbell Trading Post will hold a rug sale in the
Albuquerque/Santa Fe area.  It’s an opportunity to purchase an
authentic
Navajo weaving, personally selected by a lifelong trader on the Navajo
Reservation, and an opportunity to learn about Navajo textiles from an
expert. Steve will also lecture on the history, process, and materials
of
authentic Navajo weavings. To attend this event is free and open to the
public.

Sunday, May 18 ~ 10am and 12 noon ~ The Mystery of Chaco Canyon—A
Celestial
Celebration
Join author Stephen Allten Brown for this lecture on Chaco Canyon and
its
spiritual quietness that welcomes those willing to accept traditional
Native American ways. Stephen has reanimated the miraculous world
heritage
site of Chaco Canyon so that others may experience its wonder and
mystery.
Stephen's powerpoint presentation will take you on a tour of this
special
place where the earth and sky touch, where the natural order of the
heavens
is honored on the earth below. Stephen will address the constructed
Great
Houses, grand roadways, and erected solar and lunar markers that are
still
accurate today.

Stephen Allten Brown will also autograph copies of his Shadows of Chaco
Canyon, a mystery novel based upon historical fact. Copies will be
available for purchase at $14.95.
These programs are free. Two separate lectures will take place at 10am
& 12
noon. Advanced registration is required and limited to 25 participants.
Call 899-0205 x332 to reserve your spot and specify what lecture time
you'd
like to attend.

Monday, May 19 ~ 10am and 2pm ~ Kokopelli’s Legacy: Indian Flute
Music
David Wolfs Robe music is composed and inspired by nature and the
spirit
that surrounds him. Wolfs Robe believes "we hear the echoes of time"
within
the moving sounds of various Native American wood, ancient bone, and
river
cane flutes. Wolfs Robe takes listeners on a magical journey where they
are
sure to find that tranquil spot within themselves. Wolfs Robe performs
Native American style flute music that celebrates tradition and the
reverence for the earth. Performing on Native American style flutes,
his
repertoire is deeply respectful of the legacy of his ancestors.
Influenced
by many other Native American flute performers, his performances of
original compositions and traditional music weave delicate melodies
into
the landscape in company with the sounds of nature.

Two separate performances will take place at 10am & 2pm. These
perfromances
are free and will take place on the visitor center patio. Registration
is
not required.

Spanish Film:
El tren de la memoria
(Marta Arribas y Ana Pérez, 2004, 91 min.)
(Spanish with English subtitles)

7 pm
Bank of America Theatre
Roy E. Disney Center for Performing Arts
FREE

In the 1960s, almost two million Spaniards left Spain in search of work in France, the Netherlands, Switzerland and especially West Germany. Poor, unskilled and largely illiterate, many traveled clandestinely; others left with contracts for work in factories and other industrial establishments. Most thought they’d stay abroad for a matter of months, or possibly a year; many wound up settling in these countries for the rest of their lives. The story of this massive emigration has now finally been told by filmmakers Marta Arribas and Ana Pérez; piecing together extraordinary archival footage along with testimony by the emigrants themselves, The Train of Memory recounts the harsh conditions that forced so many Spaniards to abandon their farms and villages in search of work, as well as the often less than welcoming reception many received upon arriving at their destinations.
Part of the Óperas primera film series presented by the Instituto Cervantes.
