magical journey where they are sure to find that tranquil spot
within
themselves. Wolfs Robe performs Native American style flute music
that celebrates tradition and the reverence for the earth.

of the legacy of his ancestors. Influenced by many other Native

Tricklock Company (2008 Winner of Best Live Theater Company, Weekly Alibi's Best Of Burque) announces the New Mexico Premiere of Cowboys Are My Weakness, a sensually wild ride adapted from the critically-acclaimed novel by Pam Houston. Cowboys… is a collection of strong, shrewd, and very funny stories, in which we meet smart women who are looking for the love of a good man, and men who are wild and hard to pin down.
"I've always had this thing for cowboys, maybe because I was born in New Jersey. But a real cowboy is hard to find these days, even in the West,". Our heroines are part daredevil, part philosopher, all acute observers of the nuances of modern romance. They go where their cowboys go, they meet cowboys who don't look the part — and they have staunch friends who give them advice when! the going gets rough. Cowboys Are My Weakness is a refreshing and realistic look at men and women—together and apart.
"A collection of smart, surefooted stories, full of humor, intelligence and a kind of steely-eyed wonder....These are the stories that might have emerged had an intelligent woman followed Hemingway around."—San Francisco Chronicle
Cowboys… was conceived, adapted and originally directed by Book-It Repertory Theater’s Co-Artistic Director, Myra Platt. In the unique Book-It style that preserves the narrative text as it is spoken, not by a single “narrator” but as dialogue by the characters in the production, actors perform the text as written by the novel’s author, bringing an exciting, one-of-a-kind voice to the live stage. The world premiere production of Cowboys Are My Weakness, by Pa! m Houston, and adapted by Myra Platt, was commissioned and originally produced by Book-It Repertory Theatre, Seattle, WA. It is produced with permission.
"Exhilarating, like a swift ride through river rapids with a spunky, sexy gal handling the oars."—Washington Post Book World
About Tricklock Company:
Tricklock Company is an international theatre organization founded in 1993 whose mission is to create, tour, and produce theatrical performances as a permanent resident company committed to artistic risk, physicality, absurdism, and poetic work.
Tricklock Company asserts that theatre is a provocative and vital tool for examining the human experience and presents their findings through theatrical work. They believe that theatrical performance is a movement intrinsic to the evolution of our culture.
About Book-It Repertory Theater:
! Book-It Repertory Theatre is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming great literature into great theatre through simple and sensitive production and to inspiring its audiences to read.
Book-It Repertory Theatre was founded by a group of theatre artists who loved to read. Recognizing the immense wealth of story, character and language that exists in classic and contemporary literature, these artists wanted to create opportunities for audiences and fellow artists to experience theatre through imaginative stagings of written narrative. By creating theatre exclusively from literature, Book-It strives to bring theatre back to its roots—storytelling. From its early beginnings as a collective of artists experimenting in a workshop setting, to its current day as one of Seattle's most thriving, unique theatres with over 1,800 subscribers, Book-It's main purpose has been and still is to bring literature to life on stage, and inspire pe! ople to read.

During the course of our busy day we may not notice the first spring bloom at the sidewalk edge or the return of the robin’s urgent song. We may not even notice that the river has swollen with melted snow or that a winged insect zigzags through the air. Yet, if we take just a few moments to observe the natural world we may be surprised by the profound impact it has on our quality of life.
Nature journaling demands that we slow down, observe, and take note of the color, shape, detail, poetry, and prose of a moment in nature in drawings and words. Artist, Margy O’Brien, says, “My own journals and sketchbooks allow me the pleasure of discovering something for myself, reading directly from nature.” She continues, “I gain insight into myself, sharpen my senses and recover from the desensitization of modern life.”
Join celebrated artist, Margy O’Brien, on Saturday, May 24 from 9:30AM to Noon and learn how to begin your own nature journal. Prior art experience is not necessary. You will need a blank sketch book of your choice, pencils and any art supplies you enjoy using. Please prepare for the outdoors and bring sun protection, water and a portable stool or blanket for your comfort. Workshop fee is $10.00 per person. Open Space Division
Beautifying the Rio: National River Cleanup Day 2008]
Join the City of Albuquerque Open Space Division and other local organizations in helping clean the Rio Grande during National River Cleanup Day, taking place on Saturday, May 17th. “The Rio Grande and its lush cottonwood bosque are natural treasures in our desert city,” says Mayor Martin Chávez, “I encourage Albuquerque’s citizens to put on some work gloves and take some time to help restore the Rio Grande’s beauty during this important event.” There are over 2,600 acres of bosque and over 50 miles of shoreline in the Rio Grande Valley State Park, and we want our visitors to enjoy it all!
Many visitors to the Rio Grande Valley State Park do their part to pick up trash in the bosque, but not everyone has gotten the message that trash has its place, and it's not in Open Space! As our city grows, citizen stewardship of the river becomes more and more important. National River Cleanup is a great way to concentrate our efforts and beautify the Rio Grande!
National River Cleanup was started in 1992 by America Outdoors, a national association of outfitters and guides, and American Rivers, a North American conservation organization, as a way to assist local communities to keep their rivers, watersheds and shorelines clean.
EVENT DETAILS: The Cleanup takes place between 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Volunteers will meet on the west side of the river, north of the Central Avenue Bridge. Parking is available off of Central Ave., just north of Sunset Rd. Boaters are highly encouraged to attend. We will arrange shuttles for boaters to travel from Central Ave. to the launch point at Montaño Blvd. Bring work gloves, water, and sun protection. Kirtland Outdoor Recreation will have guided rafts in need of volunteers to help remove trash from the river (space is limited). We will provide refreshments, a BBQ and a prize drawing at the end of the event. Alternatively, if you have a favorite area of the bosque that you'd like to help clean up, please consider hosting a River Cleanup of your own! The Open Space Division will supply trash bags, courtesy of America Outdoors, and will dispose the collected trash. Call 452-5216 for more information.
Volunteers are encouraged to pre-register at REI. You can call 247-119 or stop by 11550 Mercantile Ave. to sign up. For more information please contact Jim Sattler or Kent Swanson at 452-5200 or jsattler@cabq.gov. This event is sponsored in part by the City of Albuquerque Open Space Division, Adobe Whitewater Club, West Central Alliance of Neighborhoods (WeCAN), the Rotary Club of Albuquerque, Kirtland Air Force Base Outdoor Recreation, and the Open Space Alliance.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT THE BOX
"We have had our children involved in many theater programs in the Albuquerque area, and we have been very impressed with Kristin and Doug's performances. They connect well with the kids, give excellent instruction, and make it really fun for the kids. The Box Performance Space is awesome!" -Matt and Anne Coulombe
"The BOX has given my daughter such a wonderful insight into the performing arts! She has been involved in the improv classes that have allowed her to think creatively and openly. We are so glad to have bumped into this great little theater! The only problem we have now is prying her out of there." -Erika Meneses
"The Box has been the most amazing place for our daughters musical theatre adventures!!! She has grown so much in such a short amount of time because of Doug & Kristin. The two of them make such an awesome team! Not only is their talent unbelievable......but so are their hearts. We are so glad we found such a positive, inspiring venue for our daughter. Our daughter smiles every time she is on her way to the 'Box!' " -Amber Kolich
"WOW!!! What a wonderful experience it has been for our 6 yr old son Zechariah, as well as our family. Who would have thought our son would have an opportunity of a life-time at The Box Performance Space in discovering his "OWN" as an actor. Not only are Doug and Kristin patient with the actors both young and old but they, without knowing, have taught our son to believe in himself and teach life-long lessons. The Box has the best Directors and assistants and we are blessed to have discovered this wonderful place. I encourage anyone to try the Box, once you do, you won't want to go anywhere else!!!!"
-Mark and Paulette Asplund
"They have created a great space and they work to make fun for all ages. There is no shortage of energy and tons of excitement about seeing people perform. Go see a show, go star in a show, go be inside the Box !!!" -John Miner

You can call 247-1191 or stop by 1550 Mercantile Ave.
