Sunday, June 1”Spanish Colonial Tin Punch Workshop  12 noon to 4pm at
the Visitor Center

Petroglyph is pleased to announce experienced tinsmith Jason Younis y
Delgado as the workshop instructor. A Santa Fe native, Jason learned
the art of tin punching from his grandmother Angelina Delgado Martinez.
Today, he continues the craft of five family generations, participating in
local and regional shows and craft fairs.

Most of Jasons tools were given  to him by his grandmother but he also makes punches to reproduce the designs  of 17 th century Spanish Colonial tinwork. Jasons designs, incorporating his own unique imagery, are drawn from traditional family patterns and  historical Spanish Colonial tinwork. Workshop fee of $75.00 includes all materials  and personal instruction. Workshop participants get to keep their completed pieces. Advanced registration is required. Call 899-0205 x331 to

Making paper is an ancient art that is fun and easy to do at home.  Handmade paper has a variety of uses including in note cards, letters, notebooks and journals, sculpture, and home decoration.  In this class you will learn the basic steps for making paper from plants and recycled materials.

We will talk about making paper “from the ground up.” We will discuss how to harvest plant materials, boil them and blend them for use in making our paper.  We’ll also use recycled paper in our mix to create different textures and consistencies.  Participants get to take their paper samples home!

This class is intended for those with little or no papermaking experience, but more experienced papermakers are welcome. Ages 8 and up are welcome.  The workshop will begin promptly at 10:00 am.

Kent Swanson is an Associate Planner with the Open Space Division.  In a former life Kent studied papermaking and book arts at Occidental College and at Bellas Artes in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Space is limited to 20 people.  RSVP required.  The class is FREE.  Call the Open Space Visitor Center at 505-897-8831 to reserve a space or email jrwillis@cabq.gov.
