Digging Deep: An Archaelogical Look at Pre-historic Tool Use
A Lecture presented by Archeologist Ron Fields on Saturday, June 28
@

                                  6:30pm

Since the creation of the National Park Service in 1916, park rangers
have

provided park visitors the opportunity for education about the natural
and

cultural resources in the setting of an evening campfire program. In
the

spirit of this almost 100 year old tradition, Petroglyph National
Monument

will conduct various evening programs on select Saturday evenings in
June

and July. All evening programs will be free and presented by a park
ranger

on the visitor center patio at 6:30pm to 7:30pm.

Have you ever wondered how the people of the Rio Grande Valley lived
prior

to contact with Coronado and the first Spanish settlers? How they
created

fire, threw spears, made projectile points, made sandals or made the

petroglyphs? Learn about atlatls and other everyday tools necessary for

human survival centuries ago. Join archaeologist Ron Fields for an

enjoyable “hands-on” learning experience. This activity will be fun
for the

whole family.

Location: Petroglyph National Monument’s Visitor Center located at
4735

Unser Blvd. NW at Western Trail.  This program is free and open to the

public. Visitor Center will open at 6pm. Bench seating available but
you

are welcome to bring your own chair and a beverage. No advanced

registration is required. Contact Luke Fields, Park Ranger, at
505-899-0205

ext. 333 for more information.
